What does a DAFZA package include?

  • An airport-linked address next to Dubai International, useful for cargo, aviation and high-value goods.
  • License types covering trade, service, industrial, general trading and e-commerce.
  • A visa quota tied to your space. The ratio of visas to area differs between sources, so confirm it in writing before you lease.
  • Itemised quotes. Because DAFZA publishes no fee schedule, we ask for the authority fee, space cost, per-visa cost and year-two renewal in writing.

DAFZA licenses cover trade, service, industrial, general trading and e-commerce, with a large activity list that includes air cargo, logistics, customs brokerage and aircraft parts. Goods businesses whose cargo arrives by air benefit most from the zone's customs and logistics setup.

What are the DAFZA visa and office rules?

DAFZA companies lease space inside the free zone, from desks to offices, warehouses and cargo units. The visa quota depends on the area leased, and published ratios of area per visa vary, so ask DAFZA to confirm the ratio in writing. Space is the largest cost line, so size it to the visas you need this year.

For the full range of visa costs and quotas by route, see our business setup cost guide and the PRO services we use to file them.

Who does DAFZA suit, and who should look elsewhere?

DAFZA suits:

  • Air cargo, logistics, aviation and aircraft parts companies.
  • Traders of high-value goods such as pharmaceuticals and electronics that arrive by air.
  • Companies that want a Dubai airport address and storage close to the terminal.

DAFZA is a weaker fit for:

  • Service firms such as consultants, marketing and IT companies, which can pay far less in other zones.
  • Sea freight and bulk businesses, which may fit a port-linked zone better.
  • Price-driven founders, because other Dubai zones offer a Dubai address for less.

Hidden costs to check before you pay

Ask for each of these in writing before you pay a deposit for a DAFZA setup.

  • Unpublished fees. Without a fee schedule, the same package can be quoted several ways, so ask for each line.
  • Attestation of parent company papers. It is the usual bottleneck and costs time and fees.
  • Space size. More visas mean more area, and area is the biggest cost.
  • Cargo and customs. Goods businesses add customs registration, handling and storage costs.
  • Renewals and closure. Renewal is a yearly cost and closure carries its own fee.

Frequently asked questions

DAFZA publishes no fixed fee schedule. At the time of writing, annual license fees run about AED 10,000 to 50,000, entry packages about AED 23,000 to 50,000 in year one, and office packages from about AED 40,000. We get the authority fee, space and visa costs itemised in writing.

Prices vary with the license type, activity, office size and visa count, and DAFZA publishes no fee list, so each package is quoted separately. Comparing quotes only works when the authority fee, space, visas and renewal are shown line by line.

Usually not. Consultancy, marketing and IT firms get little benefit from an airport address, and other Dubai free zones cost less. DAFZA fits goods businesses whose cargo arrives by air, such as aviation, pharmaceuticals and electronics.

The quota depends on the area you lease, and published sources quote different ratios of area per visa. Ask DAFZA to confirm the ratio in writing before you sign a lease, so the space matches the visas you need.

Yes. A DAFZA license is accepted by UAE banks, but each bank runs its own checks and often asks for a minimum balance, commonly from AED 20,000. Account opening takes several weeks, and we prepare the bank file with your license.

Not directly. DAFZA companies sell to the mainland through a distributor, a branch or the Dubai Economy and Tourism permit for free zone companies. Goods sold to end consumers do not qualify for the 0 percent free zone tax rate, so confirm the tax position with your adviser.

No. You can own a DAFZA company from abroad. You need a residence visa only if you want to live in the UAE, and the license can be set up with very little travel.

A DAFZA license renews every year through the zone, before the expiry date, with fees confirmed in advance. Late renewal collects fines and can block visas. We track the date for every client and file before it falls due.
